One thing I love about coffee is that it is a ritual shared around the world. It has a way of bringing people together and other benefits. Having a coffee can be a symbolic way of spending time with family, developing new business deals, time to get work done, and more.
To be honest, I’m more of a tea vs. coffee person. Now I drink one per week. Keep reading to find out who introduced me to coffee lattes.
My sister Shervia inspired this blog post. She loves iced oat milk lattes. In the summer of 2021, we were at Starbucks, and I decided to try one for myself, and I enjoyed it. Then I found a cute local coffee shop in my neighborhood that makes them even better. Shortly after, I thought why don’t I make them at home and save a few bucks? And, here we are.

What is an oat milk latte
A coffee beverage made with espresso and oat milk. Oat milk is a dairy-free milk alternative & versatile option for those who are dairy-free or looking to drink less dairy. How to make oat milk
In just a few simple steps you’ll have the best homemade oat milk:
Step 1: Add the oats, water, and any sweeteners (maple syrup, vanilla extract, etc.) to a high-powered blender for 20-30 seconds (do not over-blend).
Step 2: Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag or thin towel over a large mixing bowl. Double-strain the oat milk to make sure all the remnants are removed.
Step 3: Transfer the oat milk to a sealed container and store it in the fridge for up to one week.

Ingredients for Oat Milk Latte
- Coffee or espresso.
- Your favorite Oat Milk (unsweetened).
- Sweetener of choice: vanilla extract, cinnamon, cocoa powder, pumpkin spice, ground ginger, maple syrup, orange peel, agave, etc.
How to Make An Oat Milk Latte
Firstly, make your coffee. Use a coffee maker or Nespresso espresso machine and make it to your liking.
Secondly, add the oat milk and your sweetener/flavor enhancers of choice to a saucepan, bring to a simmer, and whisk occasionally for 5 to 10 minutes.
Thirdly, once the oat milk has thickened remove it from the heat. Add the oat milk to a high-powered blender and blend until it’s smooth and foamy. Feel free to remove the center cap of the blender and cover it with a dishcloth to allow the steam to escape. Taste and adjust flavors, as needed. Alternatively, if only using ground or liquid sweeteners you can use a handheld frother.
Finally, pour your coffee/espresso into your favorite mug, and then pour your oat milk mixture on top. Skim foam and spoon over the top of your latte. Optionally, sprinkle with cinnamon or even hemp seeds for some extra protein.
