Vegan Chocolate Fondue Recipe

Jump to Recipe

This chocolate fondue recipe is dairy-free, soy-free, and gluten-free. And, it comes together in only 5 minutes with only two ingredients.

Yep, just two ingredients. It’s the perfect fancy dessert to feed your guest. In addition, I’d suggest topping it with flaky sea salt to bring out the flavor of the fondue.

Now ideally, we should all show the special people in our lives that we care about them all the time. However, I like that Valentine’s Day is a nice reminder to show our loved ones that they matter to us. Anyone that knows me well knows the way to my heart is through food…and chocolate is my all-time favorite sweet dessert. On my first Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend, I received chocolate-covered strawberries.

This vegan dark chocolate fondue is the perfect way to impress that special someone, friend, or family with very little effort. Shhhh….don’t tell anyone…

How to make this chocolate fondue recipe

  1. Add water to a small pot over medium heat and give the water a few minutes until it starts to boil.
  2. Once boiling, add the chocolate & coconut milk to a pot. Place the pot filled with chocolate chips on top of the boiling pot of water and double-boil.
  3. Within a few seconds, the chocolate will start to melt. Use a heat-proof spatula to stir continuously until all the chocolate has melted. Note: chocolate should never be in direct contact with heat to prevent the chocolate from overheating.
  4. Once the chocolate has melted and fully combined with the coconut milk, remove the pot of melted chocolate from the boiling water. Sprinkle with some flaky sea salt and top with a lid to keep warm.

Chocolate Dipping Suggestions

There are so many possibilities of what you can dip in a chocolate fondue. Use this chocolate dipping set to dip strawberries, pineapples, apples, raspberries, pears, mango, pound cake bites, marshmallows, nuts, pretzels, and graham crackers. Just have fun with it.

Common Questions about Melting Chocolate

What is vegan fondue made of?

My recipe contains dairy-free chocolate chunks and unsweetened coconut milk. Alternatively, you can use coconut cream, coconut oil, or vegan butter.

Can vegan chocolate be melted?

Yes, you melt chocolate using the double-boiler method or in the microwave.

What type of chocolate is best for fondue?

Use any chocolate of your choice. Some popular options include milk chocolate, white chocolate, or dairy-free chocolate.

Can you melt non-dairy chocolate chips?

Yes, you can melt non-dairy chocolate. Get the recipe below!

Which brands of chocolate chips are vegan?

There are plenty of vegan chocolate chip brands to choose from. I’ve listed some of them below.
Hu Simple Dark Chocolate
Lily’s Dark Chocolate Baking Chips
Enjoy Life (offers multiple options)
Equal Exchange Dark Chocolate
Endangered Species Dark Chocolate Bar
Pascha Organic Baking Chips

How do you keep chocolate fondue from separating?

Melted chocolate is pretty thick and prone to seizing (turning grainy or separating). Adding a liquid will help to thin it out and hold that perfect dipping texture we all know and love.

How do you keep chocolate fondue from hardening?

If your chocolate is hard, I’d suggest adding a little melted vegan butter or neutral cooking oil like avocado oil.

How do you melt chocolate and keep it creamy?

There are several ways to melt chocolate. My favorite way is using the double boiler (or bain-marie) method. It’s one pot stacked on top of another. Add water to the lower pot and heat it to a simmer. The steam from the lower pot heats the upper pot – where the chocolate is gradually melting. This will prevent the chocolate from burning.

How to make chocolate fondue in a slow cooker

  • Add the chocolate chips, cream, or liquid, to a slow cooker or crockpot. Cover and cook on high for 30-45 minutes, stirring (using a heat-proof spatula) every 10 minutes, or until fully melted.
  • Turn the slow cooker to warm and serve the fondue with your favorite options for dipping.

How to make chocolate fondue in an instant pot

  • Firstly, add an instant pot liner to the instant pot. Pour 2 cups of water into the liner. Place a glass bowl on top of the liner (you will want to find a bowl that has a “lip” so that it can sit comfortably on top of the liner).
  • Secondly, pour the chocolate chips, coconut cream, or liquid such as coconut milk, and salt into the bowl. Press the SAUTE button on the Instant Pot. Occasionally stir the chocolate and coconut cream as the water heats up and the chocolate starts to melt.
  • Thirdly, continue stirring until the chocolate is smooth (takes about 8-10 minutes). Once the chocolate is completely melted, press CANCEL and then the KEEP WARM button.

Your recipe begins by stating to “ add water to a small pot“, but nowhere does it indicate how much water. Could you please share that detail? Thank you so much.
